RRP Approx £35

The MobiGo from VTech is a handheld learning/entertainment device aimed at 3-7 year olds. It was tested by my 2 1/2 year old, along with several family members who all wanted a go!

We were sent it with the Shrek game which has several different activities and games.

As usual from VTech the build quality is excellent. The bright colours are very appealing and the whole thing feels very solid. The screen slides up to reveal a full keyboard – used in spelling games and for entering your name. The screen is quite hard to move – little ones might need some help with this but most games can be played with it closed, and using the buttons on the front and the touchscreen. The touchscreen is plastic, and should withstand normal usage from children – it seems quite tough. There are buttons to lower the volume and also a headphone port for quiet play (as in car journeys!)

Right from seeing the box my Daughter was excited, and once we’d shown her how to play a few games she was quite happy to use it by herself, usually snuggled on the sofa with her blanket (some might say just like Daddy and his XBox)

I liked that the games have an educational aspect to them, although quite how a 2 year old who cant read yet gets all the letters right in spelling is beyond me!

Games themselves come on cartridges or can be downloaded from the VTech website. The games are Adobe Flash based, and seem well made, with plenty of sound effects and animation to keep your kids amused.

Everything they do is also tracked, and if you then connect the MobiGo to your PC the data gets sent to the VTech website where you can log on and see what games they’ve been playing, and how long! You also have the option to print certificates for their high scores, and can download rewards right to the MobiGo – like games and badges to view onscreen.

Overall this is a really nice toy – and has been used all the time since we got it. Another hit from VTech thats sure to be a big seller this year.
